How healthy is that salad?

The Calamity Farm veggie patch is beginning to show signs of summer. As in previous articles, I am trying to fill the raised beds with vegetables that are as nutritious as possible and also vegetables that I can dig out or pick during all 4 seasons.

Summer means salads and I was curious to discover who are the nutrient stars when it comes to an “average” salad.

It will come as no surprise the darker the leaf, the more good stuff there is. I have always been suspicious of lettuce and it does seem some are better than others with the classic Iceberg lettuce being the lowest on  the list.

What really surprised and pleased me was the discovery that radishes have a variety of health benefits and the link on radishes is well worth reading especially as radishes are easy and quick to grow.

So I am off to plant more kale, spinach and silverbeet. I may turn green!
